Prayagraj, August 19, 2024: Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy highlighted the growing population as a significant challenge for India, noting that the issue has been largely neglected since the Emergency period. Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology in Prayagraj, where he served as the chief guest, Mr. Murthy expressed concern about the impact of population growth on the country’s sustainability.

"India is grappling with challenges related to population growth, limited per capita land, and healthcare facilities," he said. "Since the Emergency, we have not adequately focused on population control, and this could jeopardize our country’s sustainability. In contrast, nations like the US, Brazil, and China have much higher per capita land availability."

Mr. Murthy also stressed the importance of a true professional’s duty to contribute to the nation’s progress. "This contribution relies on setting high aspirations, dreaming big, and working tirelessly to realize those dreams," he said.

He further added that one generation must be willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of the next. "My parents, siblings, and teachers made significant sacrifices for my progress, and my presence here as the chief guest is a testament to their efforts not being in vain," he concluded.
