Nobel prize for Physics awarded to Three scientists for laser research

Stockholm, Oct 02: Three scientists, who worked on separate laser Physics projects, have been awarded this year’s Nobel prize for Physics.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm gave away the prize to Arthur Ashkin, Gérard Morou, and Donna Strickland on Tuesday.

They will jointly share the 9m Swedish kronor ($997,725) prize.

Projects: Their work in laser Physics

Ashkin will get half of the prize sum for his work on optical tweezers that emitted light beams for handling tiny organisms.

Meanwhile, the other half will be shared between Mourou and Strickland for their novel method of generating intense, ultra-short optical pulses.

Notably, the Nobel Peace Prize for this year will be announced on Friday.
