Bangalore, August 24, 2013 (DHNS): In her hour of victory, actress-politician Ramya chose to counter the words that had stung her most during the gruelling campaign for the Mandya parliamentary bypoll.
Amid jubilant Congress workers celebrating her win, she told reporters that nobody would comment on her parents now. Ramya defeated her JD(S) rival by over 65,000 votes.
The fitting response was targeted at former MLA M Srinivas who had questioned her parentage. During an election rally in Mandya, Srinivas said the Congress had fielded a candidate who did not know who her father was. “She is a test-tube baby and a baby of the Congress party," the JD (S) leader had said.
The personal attack left a bitter taste as Ramya was mourning the demise of her foster father, R T Narayan.
The remarks were widely condemned. The Mandya Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer for the Lok Sabha byelection had issued a show-cause notice to M. Srinivas over the intemperate remarks forcing him to apologise.
