Nod for Farm Loan Waivers; Suicide Bid Near Assembly

Bengaluru, Jul 02, 2018 : Amidst speculations of a rift in the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, the coalition coordination committee, on Sunday, approved the Rs 53,000 crore farmer loan waiver.

The committee which met at Bengaluru’s Kumarakrupa guest house approved all recommendations of the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) drafting committee. The CMP is the document that ensures the manifesto promises of both the parties are included in the government’s budget.

Apart from Kumaraswamy’s ambitious loan waiver, the committee agreed to retain the flagship programmes of the previous Congress government, which was a demand from former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. However, his demand of the JD(S) not presenting a fresh budget, was not even discussed during the meeting.


A dagger-wielding youth spread panic on busy MG Road on Sunday evening after he attacked a woman playing with her two daughters on Namma Metro Boulevard, injured her, snatched her gold chain and took to his heels.

A policeman at the spot chased the youth for about 500 metres and managed to nab him near the KC Das outlet on Church Street. Nagesh MS, a gunman from the District Armed Reserve, and three passersby suffered injuries after the youth slashed at them with the dagger.

The youth, in his mid-20s, was beaten up by the public before Cubbon Park police took him into custody.


A KSRTC bus ground to a halt after one of its tyres went flat on Hebbal flyover along Ballari Road, the crucial link between the Kempeowda International Airport and the city on Saturday bringing the traffic to a halt.

Not the ones top throw up their hands, RT Nagar traffic policeturned mechanics, changed the tyre and enabled the bus to move ahead, clearing the pile up. The bus was coming from from Doddaballapura towards the city when it got stuck on the flyover at around 4.15pm. Its front tyre went flat and the bus driver promptly alerted the KSRTC mechanic. As the traffic started piling up, R T Nagar traffic police got wind of the development and landed at the spot.


A man attempted suicide outside Gate number 2 of the Vidhana Soudha on Saturday. He claimed he was a victim of cheating and harassment.

Gangadhar, 40, a realtor from Gauribidanur, stepped out his car, walked up to the security personnel outside Gate no. 2 and consumed poison, all while announcing that justice had not been served and that he was being harassed. The security personnel snatched the bottle from him. He was later taken to a private hospital.

“Gangadhar runs a real estate business and was reportedly cheated of several lakhs of rupees by Bengaluru-based realtor Shivappa,” the police said. He alleged that Shivappa had the backing of an MLA and he was being harassed for asking him to repay the loan.

On 21 June, Sukanya Girish, a rescuer of street dogs in Bengaluru, found Jhansi lying on the road in JP Nagar. Jhansi’s intestines were popping out and the dog was in immense pain. Jhansi was immediately rushed to Jeeva Veterinary Hospital in JP Nagar, where the doctors had to repair her intestines and close up the wound.

Two days before she was found in the horrifying condition, Jhansi was operated upon by the BBMP contractor for the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Programme, Bommanahalli Zone, Dr Gaddi and his team.

“The dog was operated on under the ABC programme and when she was brought to Jeeva, her intestines had come out; they were covered in mud and were also infected. This had led to parts of her intestines not receiving proper blood flow. We treated the dog and a part of the intestine was removed as it was infected. It was a severe case of infection and the dog was administered painkillers and antibiotics,” said Dr Nagesh Reddy, who treated Jhansi.
