The accused, identified only by his first name Narendra, was said to be in uniform and heavily inebriated when he tried to assault the girl inside the Kulesara police chowki on Saturday morning.

Hundreds of angry people from Kulesara village – where the family of the minor resides -- gathered outside the police chowki demanding arrest of the accused.

Greater Noida’s rural superintendent of police Suniti, who uses only her first name, said the accused has been terminated from service with “immediate effect” and “booked under non-bailable charges”, including sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Narendra, a native of Partapur in Meerut, was posted at Kulesara for the last four years of his 27-year service period.

The Noida incident comes barely a few days after a special police officer was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly raping and killing an eight-year-old girl in the Kathua area of Jammu.

The Noida minor’s father, who drives an auto-rickshaw for a living, said the accused lured his daughter to the outpost when she had gone to a nearby shop to buy some household items for her mother.

“At 7 am, my daughter dressed in uniform was ready to go to her school…As she was buying the commodities, the constable who was sitting outside the police chowki called her towards him and took her inside the chowki where he undressed her and did wrong things with her,” he said. The girl resisted and managed to flee.

“This constable kept chasing my daughter and reached our house. He was so drunk that he kept standing outside my house for 10 minutes waiting for my daughter to come out. When finally, she saw me sitting in my auto nearby, she ran towards me and narrated the incident. As I tried to apprehend the police man, he ran away from the spot,” the father added.

The family of four, natives of Azamgarh, has been living in Kulesara for the past 12 years

Gautam Budh Nagar police said accused, who was on duty overnight, was the only policeman at the chowki in the morning hours.

“Narendra was arrested under one hour of the incident by our team. He was found in a drunken state…,” said KK Rana, station house officer of Eco Tech III police station.

Harvir Singh, in-charge of Kulesara police outpost said though the staff strength is 5-6 on an average, all other personnnel have been deputed for board examination security at nearby centres.
