Omar Abdullah takes oath, Congress sits out of J&K government

Jammu & Kashmir, October 16, 2024: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has been sworn in as the Chief Minister as the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir got its first government since losing its special status.

Eight other lawmakers from his party will also take oath as ministers today after the Congress opted to support the incoming government from outside. Sources said the Congress had declined the offer of one ministerial berth despite having allied with Mr Abdullah’s party for the recent polls.
