One killed, many injured as gallery collapses during Kabaddi match in Mandya

Mandya, April 28, 2025: A makeshift gallery collapsed killing one person and leaving more than 15 people injured, during the floodlight Kabaddi tournament at Mallanayakanahalli Katte village, in Karnataka’s Mandya taluk, on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Papanichar, aged 45 and a resident of Mallanayakanakatte village. Around 15 people have sustained injuries and have been admitted to Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.


Kabaddi match


A Mysuru-divisional level floodlight Kabaddi tournament ’Sri Bhyrava Cup - 2025’ was organised in association with a club Drona Warriors for the youths below 23 years. The first year tournament was scheduled to be held on April 26 and 27, at Sri Doddammana Gudi premises at Mallanayakanakatte village.

The Kabaddi tournament started on Saturday evening and a large number of people had gathered to watch the match, seated in the temporary gallery constructed on the premises. The makeshift gallery suddenly collapsed during the tournament, resulting in the death and injuries.
