Gurugram, Oct 02, 2021: Over 100 people, including children, fell sick as they developed severe stomach infection after allegedly drinking ’contaminated’ water in Gurugram. The residents of The Coralwood in Sector 84 complained after several people were rushed to nearby hospitals over the past two days. They claimed that people fell sick after consuming contaminated water being supplied from a borewell.
According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), residents have raised suspicion that untreated water from the nearby villages and societies is seeping into the borewell, which has led to a rise in water-borne diseases. As per the report, at least ten people, including kids and senior citizens, were taken to hospitals over the past two days after they complained of stomach infection, uneasiness, diarrhoea and vomiting. There are around 350 families living in the residential complex at present.
A resident of society told TOI that his three-year-old daughter was taken to a nearby hospital after she complained of a stomach infection and severe dehydration. Rahul Bhatnagar said that his daughter was diagnosed with diarrhoea and now she is getting IV fluids, adding that his elder daughter also had a stomach ache.
"I posted a message on a social media group and within hours, many residents came up with similar complaints. The social media was flooded with complaints and similar messages and people complained about indigestion and gastrointestinal problems," Bhatnagar said.
Another resident, Anudeep Saxena, also faced similar issues as his 15-month-old son was diagnosed with mild diarrhoea. Saxena said that he is also suffering from diarrhoea and they have to buy water bottles from outside for cooking and drinking.Meanwhile, Jitender Soni, RWA General Secretary said that the matter must be probed by the maintenance agency before the situation gets worse. RWA President Puran Singh said that the samples have been collected and will be sent to the lab for testing. On the other hand, the facility manager of the society, Sanjay Sura, denied the allegations. Sura said that only a few residents have complained about the problem and attributed the illness to a ’change of weather’. He said that society carries out water-testing every month and the storage tanks are clean.
