New Delhi, Oct 03, 2018 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the ’Champions of the Earth’ award, which is UN’s top environmental honour, on Wednesday. After receiving Narendra Modi thanked the world community for acknowledging India’s effort to save environment.
He was given the award for his International Solar Alliance initiative.He dedicated the award to the countless Indians and their efforts towards achieving climate justice. He also stated that it is a proud moment for India to host such an event.
PM Narendra Modi received the ’UNEP Champions of the Earth’ award from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, at a ceremony in Delhi.
The annual ’Champions of the Earth’ prize is awarded to outstanding leaders from government, civil society and the private sector whose actions have had a positive impact on the environment.
Speaking earlier at the event United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said PM Modi’s example not followed enough by other world leaders.
The award was announced at the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), during the 73rd session.
