New Delhi, Jul 09, 2021: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a high-level meeting around 11:30 am on Friday to review the augmentation and availability of medical oxygen across the country, sources said.
PM Modi’s Friday meet comes a day after the central government approved a Rs 23,000 crore relief package for combating Covid-19 and dealing with issues which occurred during the second wave.
Addressing the media after the first Cabinet meeting following the reshuffle, Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the Centre would provide Rs 15,000 crore and states Rs 8,000 crore and the plan would be implemented jointly by them across all the 736 districts of the country to improve medical infrastructure at primary and district health centres.
The Centre has been taking measures in coordination with states to boost production and supply of oxygen amid complaints of shortage in various hospitals. PM Modi has been holding a number of meetings in this regard amid apprehensions of a third wave of the pandemic.
In a high-level meeting that took place in May this year, PM Modi had emphasised the need for localised containment strategies. He had directed officials to chalk out a plan for the distribution of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) to rural areas. A statement from the PMO said PM Modi also stressed the need for necessary training for healthcare workers in dealing with medical devices.
