Pak Violates Ceasefire along LOC ; Woman, 12-year-old boy killed in firing

Srinagar, Jan 19, 2018 : Two civilians, including a 40-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy, were killed and four others were injured in firing by Pakistan as it ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir during wee hours on Friday. Heavy firing has also been reported in Arnia, Kathua and Samba sectors. Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) is strongly retaliating to the unprovoked firing of mortar shells by Pakistan.

 

Targeting BSF posts and 50 villages along the IB in RS Pura, Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing at 6.45 AM on Friday. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.

The incident comes a day after a 17-year-old girl and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan lost his life in the cross-border firing by Pakistani troops in RS Pura sector. Another BSF jawan and three civilians were injured in the firing.

On Thursday, the firing and shelling on the Border Out Posts and civilian areas in RS Pura sector started at 2100 hours.

“The district administration has asked all its officers to remain in the state of highest preparedness in view of continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan,” a BSF official was quoted as saying.

The ceasefire violation by Pakistan comes a few days after four Pakistani soldiers were killed by the Indian Army in the cross-border firing initiated by the former in Poonch sector.

Earlier on January 15, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat warned Pakistan of a strong reaction by India if it continues to violate the ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking in New Delhi on the occasion of 70th Army Day, General Rawat said Indian forces would not hesitate in taking strong steps if the neighbouring country continues with its policy disturbing peace in the region.

“Ceasefire violations by Pakistan happen frequently, to which we respond effectively. We will take even stronger steps against our enemies if we are compelled to do so,” General Bipin Rawat said.

Last month, General Bipin Rawat has said that India and Pakistan can talk about establishing peace only if Pakistan stops supporting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
