Pakistan ex-PM Gilani’s son Ali Haidar kidnapped from poll rally

Islamabad, May 9, 2013: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s son Ali Haidar was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from a rally in Multan and his secretary killed on Thursday. The attack comes just two days ahead of elections in Pakistan that are scheduled to be held on May 11.


Ali Haidar 1According to Pakistani news channel Geo News, Ali Haider was campaigning when he was kidnapped and has been injured. Gilani has now reached the spot and the area has now been cordoned off by the police.

According to an eyewitness, a few men came to the rally and started firing in which the secretary was killed. They then forced Ali Haidar to accompany them. The kidnappers fled from the rally venue firing at the people assembled there. "The attackers came in two cars. They opened fire and Haidar Gilani got injured. Attackers then took him away. Attackers kept firing while leaving," said the eyewitness.


According to Geo News, two people have been killed including Gilani’s secretary and a bodyguard. The news channel reported that five people have been injured in the firing.

According to a police official, two men came on a motorcycle, opened fire and abducted Ali Haidar. the gunmen then escaped in a black car. All entry and exit points from Multan to adjoining districts have been blocked, GEO News reported.
