Srinagar,Sep 12, 2017 : Accusing Pakistan of repeatedly indulging in ceasefire violations along the borders, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that neighbouring country does not seem interested to improve ties with India.
"There have been over 400 ceasefire violations (along the borders) since 2014. The way Pakistan has been resorting to firing time and again, it appears that it is not interested to have good relations with India," Singh said while addressing a press conference in Jammu, before concluding his four-day visit to the state.
He said that Indian Army and BSF troops were giving a befitting reply to Pakistan and "we will create such conditions that they will be forced to stop ceasefire violation today or tomorrow."
The Home Minister while terming the border dwellers as "biggest strategic asset of India" said the Center has already taken decisions to construct bunkers for their protection. "Sixty bunkers have so far been constructed, while many more were nearing completion. If we get strategic successes, it is because of their (border dwellers) contribution," he said.
The Home Minister also announced that any civilian killed or injured in cross border firing with 50 percent or more disability would be given monetary support of Rs five lakh.
On Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s allegation that BJP destroyed the image of the ruling PDP in Jammu and Kashmir and also the alleged failure of the Narendra Modi government to control violence in the state, he said, "We do not believe in blaming anybody, otherwise we know what happened in Kashmir in 1989."
On the second day of his stay in Jammu, Singh also met deputations of major political parties and independent MLAs. The delegations apprised him about various issues and submitted memorandums. The political delegations included BJP, PDP, NC, Congress and others.
Earlier, during his visit to border district of Rajouri on Monday, he reviewed the status of ceasefire violation-led migration in Nowshera, relief camps, rescue and rehabilitation measures as well as various issues and demands of border migrants.
The Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Shahid Choudhary made a detailed presentation about problems faced by border residents, losses due to ceasefire violation including deaths, injuries, loss of private property and damage to schools and buildings, an official spokesperson said.
