Ahead of the session, PM Modi chaired a meeting in his chamber in Parliament with top ministers, including finance minister Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar.

The Lok Sabha, where the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has an overwhelming majority, however, was able to pass the Income Tax Amendment Bill on Tuesday via a voice vote. The bill was introduced as a money bill, limiting the powers of the Rajya Sabha — where the Opposition holds the numbers — to change or reject it.

However, Opposition leaders sought an appointment from the President to discuss the bill.

The Opposition is expected to raise Tuesday’s Nagrota attack that killed five jawan and two officers in both the Houses, source told ANI.
