Chennai, Sep 20, 2023: A passenger onboard a Chennai-bound IndiGo flight attempted to open the emergency door of the airplane early on Wednesday. The incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E 6341, that took flight from Delhi on Tuesday night.
Identified as Manikandan, the man was handed over to officials of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on arrival at the Chennai airport.
IndiGo airline authorities on Wednesday issued a statement acknowledging the incident, and apologizing to the passengers.
"A passenger traveling on flight 6E 6341 from Delhi to Chennai tried to open the emergency exit door cover prior to departure. As per the Standard Operating Procedure, the passenger was declared unruly by the crew and handed over to the local authorities on arrival. At no point was the safety of the flight compromised. We regret any inconvenience caused to the other passengers," the statement read.
IndiGo authorities also filed a complaint against the man. They had briefed the CISF officials about the incident upon landing at the Chennai airport, requesting action against the accused.
"Upon arrival, our crew identified one passenger tried to open the emergency exit door. Unruly passenger form filled, hence as per procedure, we are about to lodge a complaint in police station. Requesting your team to allocate CISF officials to escort the passenger to the police station," an official letter written to the CISF authorities on Wednesday read.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
