Popes representative (Nuncio) installs Jhabua bishop

Jhabua, Oct 14, 2015: Nuncio to India,  Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio Sunday ordained Fr. Basil Bhuria SVD as the bishop of Jhabua diocese in Madhya Pradesh.

The episcopal ordination ceremony began at 9.30 am with a procession, which included the local tribal dance, from the bishop’s house.

Around 3,000 people along with 300 priests and 100 Religious took part in the episcopal ceremony.

During the Mass, the papal order to ordain Fr. Bhuria as bishop of Jhabua was read out to the people.

“The Lord has appointed Fr. Basil to serve and love the poor in God’s Kingdom. We all need to come out of ourselves to serve the poor in joy and gladness,” Archbishop Pennacchio said quoting bible from Luke.

He said that the bishop is not to rule and seek honor but to serve the people as the minister of Christ. He also asked priests to cooperate with new bishop with the spirit of Christ.

In the year of consecrated life, he asked Religious sisters to work tirelessly and be loyal to the bishop. Later, Archbishops Leo Cornelio of Bhopal and Abraham Viruthakulangara of Nagpur along with the 15 other bishops blessed the newly ordained Bishop Basil.
