New Delhi, Oct 20, 2023: Banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) has moved the Supreme Court, challenging an order passed by the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) Tribunal, which declared it an unlawful organisation.

A bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi will hear the matter on Friday.

PFI

In September last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) banned PFI and its associated outfits for five years for their involvement in unlawful activities under the provisions of the stringent anti-terror law UAPA.

According to the government, the PFI’s activities have the potential to disturb public peace and communal harmony and support terrorism in the country. Such activities are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country, the government said.

Days later, the UAPA Tribunal upheld the ban on PFI imposed by the government, Live Law reported.
