New Delhi, July 3: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the Terminal 3, the country’s latest, most modern airport, in the capital on Saturday. Terminal 3 or T3 as the new airport building is called, will also be the 5th largest airport in the world.
While today’s ceremony marks the formal inauguration of T3, passengers will be able to use the airport only from July 16 when International flights start from there. Full fare Domestic airlines will begin operations at the end of the month.
T3 will have 160 check in counters and 90 immigration counters to ensure that it can handle 34 million passengers every year. The airport will also ensure that there is lots to do for passengers with more than 21 thousand square meters of shopping as well. T3 also has special wide aerobridges to allow for the super jumbo the A 380 as well.
NDTV got an exclusive tour of the new engineering marvel with Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. He said that the T3 is not just a building, it’s a statement. He added that the cost to build the T3 was higher than estimated, but people would not mind paying the special airport usage fee and are also capable of paying toll tax.
