Pub brawl case: Media denied entry into court hall, later allowed

Bengaluru,Feb 26, 2018 : For the second time on Monday, media persons were not allowed to cover the bail plea hearing of Mohammed Nalapad Haris, the prime accused in the pub brawl case.

 

The media were denied entry into the 62nd court hall at the city civil and sessions court here, citing security concerns.

On February 21, when Mohammed and six of his associates were produced before the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court, media persons were whisked away from the court hall.

On Monday, the police, who were guarding the courtroom, asked journalists who were sitting inside to leave.

When asked why media persons are being told to leave, the police officers on duty said that they were acting as per the directions of the judge.

When media persons tried to meet the judge, his personal assistant directed journalists to consult the registrar. By then the bail hearing had begun.

The registrar, K M Radhakrishna, said that the media is not allowed to cover any proceedings and that there is not enough room for all reporters inside the courtroom.

It is also difficult to control the crowd in case there is a law and order problem, Radhakrishna said.

The registrar, however, refused to issue a written order. Instead, he said a poster will be pasted on the doors banning the media.

Following an altercation between the police and media persons outside the court hall, the registrar allowed only five reporters to cover the proceedings.
