rss worker death caseThiruvananthapuram, Jul 30 2017: The BJP has called for a hartal in Kerala today to protest the killing of an RSS worker allegedly by a gang led by a history-sheeter near here.

A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker was killed in an armed attack by unidentified men in Sreekaryam.

The deceased, RSS karyavahak Rajesh (34), was attacked by a gang of men while he was out buying groceries for home, at about 9 pm.

Preliminary reports said the assailants chopped Rajesh’s right hand off and left him on the road with serious injuries. He was shifted to a private hospital where he was declared dead.

The BJP leadership alleged that the CPM was behind the killing. Prohibitory orders have been clamped in the Thiruvananthapuram city limits following clashes between CPM and RSS-BJP activists and an attack led by a CPM ward councillor on the BJP state committee office here.

BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan slammed the ruling CPM over its ’politics of violence’ and said the prohibitory orders only served in helping the CPM to orchestrate the attack. “Rajesh is the latest victim in the violence CPM has unleashed,” he said. The CPM’s district leadership has denied allegations of the party’s involvement in the killing.

The BJP has called for a state-wide hartal on Sunday to protest the killing of Rajesh. Rajasekharan said the Centre would be apprised of concerns over the killing.
