New Delhi, Nov 02, 2016 : For the second time today, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was detained by the Delhi Police after he met with the family of a former soldier who committed suicide late last night over an insufficient pension.
Since the death of Ram Kishan Grewal, a range of political leaders rushed to the Delhi hospital where his relatives were with his body. The 65-year-old in his suicide note said he had still not received the increased pension promised to him by the government under its one-rank-one-pension scheme.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the government is resorting to "gundagardi" or hooliganism by preventing opposition leaders from meeting with Mr Grewal’s family. Mr Kejriwal’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was, like Mr Gandhi, taken away by the cops to keep him from visiting the central Delhi hospital.
Mr Gandhi was filmed asking the cops "Have you no shame" after the news emerged that Mr Grewal’s son had been detained.
