Mysore, August 13, 2010: Continuing his programme of connecting with the youth, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday asked them to join hands for development of the country during his first day of the two-day tour in Karnataka. During an hour-long interaction with students at St Philomena College in Mysore, Rahul dwelt on the role that youth can play in the political arena and development process.
He also spoke briefly about the scourge of terrorism and the need to eradicate it. The media was kept away from the event.
Police had a tough time trying to control students who vied with each other to catch Rahul’s attention.
The party general secretary, who arrived at Mandakalli airport in Mysore by a special aircraft from Bangalore, was accorded a welcome by Opposition Congress leader in the Karnataka Assembly, Siddaramaiah.
Several Congress leaders also assembled at the airport to greet their leader.
Rahul later left for Shimoga, the home district of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, for another interaction with students. He will wind up his first of his two-day programme in the state with an overnight stay at Dharwad.
