Lakhimpur, Oct 09, 2021: Social activist and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Yogendra Yadav said on Saturday that the Samyukta Kisan Morcha will start the Shaheed Kisan Kalash Yatra from Lakhimpur on October 12. "We appeal to every citizen to light five candles outside their homes at 7pm on October 12," he said during a press conference.
“Also, farmers will conduct a ’Rail Roko’ agitation on Oct 18 and a ’mahapanchayat’ in Lucknow on Oct 26,” he added.
Meanwhile, farmer leaders on Saturday demanded that Union minister Ajay Misra and his son, Ashish Misra, be arrested in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, and said the incident was a “conspiracy”.
Ajay Misra should also be removed from the government as he started this conspiracy and is also protecting the culprits in the case, Yogendra Yadav alleged. He also said that the SKM on October 15, which is Dusshera, will burn the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to protest the violence.
In the incident on October 3, in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, eight people, including four farmers, were killed.
The incident was part of a conspiracy and the attackers tried to terrorise farmers, farmer leader Darshan Pal said at the press conference of SKM, an umbrella body of farm unions, spearheading the stir against three agriculture laws.He also claimed that the government had adopted a violent approach against protesting farmers. “But we won’t take the path of violence”, Ugrahan (Bharatiya Kisan Union), a part of the SKM, asserted.
Four of the eight people, who died in the violence on Sunday were farmers, were allegedly knocked down by a vehicle carrying BJP workers. Angry farmers then allegedly lynched two BJP workers and their driver. Farmers claimed that Ashish Misra was in one of the vehicles, an allegation denied by him and his father, who say they can produce evidence to prove he was at an event at that time.
“We demand the arrest of Union Minister Ajay Misra and his son Ashish Misra,” Ugrahan said.
