Three shooters, Arun Kumar Maurya, Lovelesh Tiwari, and Sunny Singh, came disguised as media persons and gunned down gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother, Ashraf, using Zigana pistols in police custody when they were being taken for a medical examination from a Prayagraj last Saturday night. The entire incident was caught on camera. They had stopped for a bit to answer questions.

After the shooting, the assailants were nabbed by the police and sent to 14-day judicial custody.

The petition has been filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari, who demanded an early hearing from the bench headed by the Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud.

The plea also sought that the probe should be conducted under the supervision of a retired judge of the Supreme Court.

The petition also demands an investigation into 183 encounters in Uttar Pradesh since 2017 by an expert committee under the supervision of a retired judge of the Supreme Court.
