Mandya, Oct 06, 2022: The Congress went into a defensive mode after the photo of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar appeared on a poster of the party’s ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The poster in Mandya featured Savarkar along with pictures of Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar and former state chief minister Siddaramaiah.

The poster was credited to Congress’s Shanthi Nagar MLA Nalapad Ahmed Haris, who blamed some miscreants for putting up this poster.

"This is done by miscreants and not us. We will file a complaint in Mandya district," Haris said.

Earlier on September 21, a Bharat Jodo Yatra poster in Kerala featured Savarkar in a line-up with other freedom fighters. The Congress later covered Savarkar’s image with that of Mahatma Gandhi’s on the poster.

The 3,570 km long Bharat Jodo Yatra began from Kanyakumari on September 8.

The yatra has so far covered 600 km across the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
