Kozikode, July 24, 2023: Schools and colleges in Kerala’s three districts – Kannur, Kozikode and Wayanad – have been ordered closed on Monday as the state braces for another spell of heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued an orange alert for Kannur, Kozikode, Kasargod and Wayanad. A yellow alert has been sounded in seven districts -- Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Thrissur, Palakkad and Idukki.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for these districts till July 27. Further, the department predicted that the Northern Kerala region will receive heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Fishermen have been asked not to venture out into the sea till July 27 after the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) issued a high tide warning for the Kerala coast.
According to the IMD, significant rainfall of 121 mm was recorded in Padinjarathara Dam in Wayanad on Sunday, while 91.5 mm, 77.5 mm and 74.5 mm rainfall was registered in Munnar, Malappuram’s Thavanur and Kozhikode, respectively.
Meanwhile, Telangana along with north interior Karnataka and south interior Karnataka were also alerted by the weather department that for the next three days, the regions will receive widespread rainfall.
