Schools in Kerala reopen today with Covid-19 protocols

Thiruvanantapuram, Nov 01, 2021: Schools in Kerala are set to re-open in a staggered manner from today, that is, November 1. The schools are being reopened after a period of one-and-a-half-years for Classes 1 to 7, 10 and 12 with Covid-19 protocols like bio-bubbles in place, the state government said on Sunday.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed that with 95 percent of the population above 18 years of age being vaccinated with at least the first dose, in addition to the reduction of the number of new cases and people undergoing COVID-19 treatment, the state has been able to relax social restrictions,

The CM further informed in a Facebook post that it is in this backdrop that the state government has decided to open schools with the utmost vigilance and in a staggered manner.

Covid-19 preventive measures for Kerala schools reopening

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan further said that to keep schools functioning in a safe manner, schools need to strictly follow the guidelines prepared by the Health and Education departments.

He further informed that schools will need to implement measures to control congestion, maintain social distance and ensure cleanliness in classrooms and the surroundings.

The state government had provided the details of the preparations made by it to safeguard children from getting infected once schools reopen earlier this month.
These preventive preparations included cleaning and disinfecting places where children crowd and strict implementation of the bio-bubble system.

The education department has also informed that schools have been directed to ensure the service of a doctor to the children along with preparing and distributing mid-day meals to children while following covid protocols.

Thermal scanners will be arranged in addition to soap, sanitisers will be arranged in each school to examine the body temperature of children, teaching and non-teaching staff.

The state government has been providing online education in lieu of the pandemic for the last two years, including the current year.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that although studies were progressing well via the online method, children were missing out on studying and playing with their friends and, therefore, the situation would be changing from November 1.
