Bengaluru, Sep 27, 2022: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other probe agencies are carrying out a second round of raids on the Popular Front of India (PFI). The NIA continued its crackdown on the radical outfit.
Raids on PFI are being carried out in eight different states. Several PFI members have also been detained.
According to the information received from NIA sources, a lot of important information was received during the interrogation of PFI leaders in the first round of raids. Based on the leads by NIA, police and other probe agencies are carrying out raids in eight states.
As many as 21 PFI members have been detained from 8 districts in Assam. Goalpara, kamrup, Barpeta, Dhubri, Bagsa ,Darrang, udalguri and karimganj are the eight districts. Raids that started this morning is still underway.
In Karnataka, as many as 60 PFI members were picked up under ‘preventive custody.’ They will be produced in front of local tehsildar and seek judicial custody and will be sent to prison. These PFI members had either stopped NIA personnel and protested earlier or had created trouble locally.
All are arrested under PAR (Preventive Action Report). They should give bond surety in front of local tehsildar. They will not get into any illegal activities and spoil harmony of the society. They should maintain good behaviour. No FIR has been registered, they all picked up under PAR.
Karnataka police arrested District PFI President and SDPI secretary in the wee hours. PFI district president Abdul Kareem and SDPI secretary Shaik Masqsood was arrested. They are under preventive custody to avoid any untoward incident and protest.
Mangalore police also secured few PFI & SDPI members. Some individuals are secured under preventive custody cases under 107 151 Crpc.
Also, six PFI members have been arrested by police under preventive custody in Kolar district. In Vijaypura, the police arrested PFI district president Ashfaq Jamkhandi under preventive custody.
PFI Leader Afhan Ali arrested under preventive custody in Chitradurga while four members of the radical outfit have been arrested under preventive custody in Bellary district.
In Chamrajnagara, 2 PFI leaders were arrested under preventive custody. PFI district president Kapil and Secretary Suhaib are the ones arrested from Chamrajnagara.
In Pune, the state police have detained six PFI supporters for questioning regarding the alleged funding. This police action is coordination with ATS and NIA’s raid that was conducted throughout the country.
According to sources, raids are being carried out in Uttar Pradesh’s Siana and Sarurpur and Lisri Gate in Meerut since late last night. Many suspects have been taken into custody from Meerut, Bulandshahr and Sitapur.
Raids are underway in many areas in Delhi including Shaheen Bagh and Jamia since late night Monday regarding PFI. Around 12 people have been detained during the raids. Along with the probe agencies, teams of Delhi Police Special Cell and local police stations were involved in the raids. As many as four people have been detained from north-east Delhi.
Earlier on Thursday (September 22), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at multiple locations against PFI at 93 locations in 15 states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, Bihar and Manipur.
Over 100 PFI members and people connected with them have been arrested by the ED, NIA and state police in different cases.
The searches were conducted at the houses and offices of top PFI leaders and members in connection with five cases registered by the NIA following continued inputs and evidence that they were involved in funding of terrorism and terrorist activities, organising camps to provide arms training and radicalising people to join banned organisations.
