Self-proclaimed godman accused of raping woman in Delhi ashram

Delhi, Jun 12, 2018 : A 25-year-old disciple has accused Daati Maharaj, a self-proclaimed godman, of raping her at his ashram in Delhi. The cops have registered the case and the investigation is underway.

 

 

According to the complainant, she was raped two years ago when she went to Daati Maharajs ashram, in South Delhis Fatehpur area popularly known as Ashram Shri Shanti Tirth Kshetra.

He along with two of his men raped her. Maharaj also raped her at his Gurukulashram in Rajasthan, she told police. Because of fear, she didn’t file a complaint earlier as she felt intimidated by the self-styled godman, she alleged.

Swati Jai Hind, Chairperson of Delhi Commission of Women said that the atrocities revealed in the complaint are really horrid and need to be investigated urgently.

Soon after receiving the complaint, an FIR was registered and a case under Section 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 354 (assault) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed at Fatehpur beri police station.

The case was later transferred to District Investigation Unit (DIU). Officials close to investigation said: We have received the complainant and the statement of the victim has already been recorded. As the day of the incident was two years ago, so action would be taken once the primarily investigation is conducted.

Meanwhile, the complaint claimed that she has not been provided the copy of the FIR and medical report despite her requesting for the same. She further stated that there is a threat to her familys lives, especially in travelling to and from the police station.
