The man has been identified as 23-year-old Sunny Mehta, a resident of Shimla’s Rohru. The woman student arrested in the case also hails from Rohru.

The Punjab Police had earlier said that the man was known to the accused woman student.

"A man from Shimla is known to the accused girl. Only after he is caught, will more details be known. Forensic probe of her mobile phone will be conducted," ADGP Community Affairs Division* Gurpreet Deo was quoted as saying by ANI.

On Sunday, protests erupted at Chandigarh University following claims of a female student making objectionable videos of several female hostel inmates.

The Punjab Police arrested the accused on Sunday. The action was taken after hostel inmates claimed their videos went viral.

Meanwhile, the university issued a statement that there was only one ’leaked’ clip and that it was a personal video that the accused sent to her boyfriend in Shimla.

In a statement released by Chandigarh University, pro-chancellor RS Bawa said, "The rumour which is circulating through the media that 60 objectionable MMS have been found of students is totally false and baseless. During the preliminary investigation conducted by the university, there have been no videos found of any student that are objectionable except a personal video shot by a girl that she shared with her boyfriend."
