Bengaluru, Jan 28, 2024: Tensions flared in Karnataka Congress on Saturday, a day after appointments to various boards and corporations were announced.

Bagepalli MLA SN Subbareddy declined his appointment as chairman of Karnataka Seeds Development Corporation. He returned the appointment order to chief minister Siddaramaiah, stating the party had pledged to make him a minister after two-and-a-half years. Subbareddy said he prefers to wait for a ministerial position since the present appointment has been made to an “insignificant corporation”.

Another MLA, Vijayanand Kashappanavar, said he was disappointed with his appointment as president of Karnataka Sports Authority. Citing bylaws, Kashappanavar said the sports minister is supposed to hold the position of president, leaving him only eligible for vice-president’s role.

Senior MLA Hampanagouda Badarli is said to have expressed dissatisfaction with his designated role as president of Karnataka State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.

Deputy chief minister and KPCC president DK Shivakumar said these appointments went through extensive consultations, taking everyone’s opinions into account. He acknowledged the aspirations for positions and power, noting the two-year tenure of these appointments. He also said that there will be fresh appointments after two years with the aim to accommodate those not selected in the current round. Addressing concerns about bylaws of the sports authority, he said they were introduced during the SM Krishna’s regime and will be amended shortly.
