Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, March 30, 2025: At least six people lost their lives after a massive tree was uprooted by a storm and fell on vehicles and food stalls near Manikaran Gurdwara in Kullu on Sunday evening. A relief and rescue operation is currently underway.
According to eyewitnesses, the storm triggered a landslide, causing the tree to collapse onto parked cars and roadside stalls. Disturbing visuals from the scene show crushed vehicles and emotional bystanders in distress. In one video, a man can be heard crying, saying "Maa" (mom) and "chale gaye, chale gaye" (they are gone, they are gone) while standing beside a fallen Kayal tree that had crushed a car. Another man was seen carrying a woman with bloodstains on her shirt.
Manikaran, located at an altitude of 1,829 meters and about 40 km from Kullu, is a popular pilgrimage site for Sikhs and Hindus. The sudden storm caught many by surprise, leading to the devastating incident.
This tragedy comes just days after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi districts.
Authorities have urged residents and tourists to remain cautious as rescue teams work to clear debris and assist the injured. Further updates are awaited.
