Students protest after govt bus runs over college girl in Bengaluru, driver detained

Bengaluru, Oct 10, 2022: A post-graduation student suffered grievous injuries when a bus ran over her while she was boarding it near Jnanabharathi University in Bengaluru on Monday morning. Students from her college began to protest on the road against rash driving by public transport drivers.

The injured student, identified as Shilpa Sree, a first-year MSc Mathematics student at Jnanabharathi University, tried to board a BMTC bus on Monday morning. However, the bus driver didn’t stop the vehicle. As a result, she slipped and went under the wheels of the bus.

She suffered grievous injuries and was shifted to Fortis hospital in Nagarbhavi for further treatment. Her condition was critical and she had to undergo surgery. Due to this, she was shifted from Nagarbhavi hospital to Fortis hospital in Bannerghatta.

Police detained the driver and impounded the vehicle.

Students, in solidarity with the injured student, came to the street and protested against rash driving by public transport drivers and demanded justice for the injured girl.
