Sunita Kejriwal to lead AAP’s Lok Sabha campaign in Delhi, hold roadshows

New Delhi, April 25, 2024: The Aam Aadmi Party’s Lok Sabha campaign in Delhi will receive a shot in the arm with Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to hold roadshows from Friday. Sources said Sunita Kejriwal is likely to start her campaign from East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.

This will be the first time that Sunita Kejriwal will be seen campaigning for Aam Aadmi Party candidates in the national capital.

AAP is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the Congress in Delhi. The party has fielded its candidates in East Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi and New Delhi seats.

After Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in the Delhi liquor policy case, Sunita Kejriwal has conveyed the AAP supremo’s message to party leaders and media through video messages and press conferences.

The AAP supremo is presently lodged in Tihar Jail. His judicial custody has been extended till May 7.

In 2020, during the Delhi Assembly elections, Sunita Kejriwal sought votes for Arvind Kejriwal by distributing pamphlets in the New Delhi constituency.

With AAP’s Lok Sabha campaign in the doldrums following the arrest of its top leaders, Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, Sunita Kejriwwal has been slowly assuming a bigger role in the party.

Sunita Kejriwal will also campaign for AAP candidates in Gujarat. Her name was mentioned in the list of star campaigners for the party in Gujarat.

The AAP has fielded candidates in two of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat - Bharuch and Bhavnagar.

Last week, the former Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer joined leaders of 28 opposition parties to address the "Ulgulan Nyay Mahrally" in Ranchi.

In a hard-hitting speech against the BJP, Sunita accused the Centre of denying insulin to her husband, who has Type 2 diabetes.

"They want to kill my husband Arvind Kejriwal. His food is under camera observation; he is denied insulin. My husband is a sugar patient who has been on insulin for the last 12 years," she said at the rally.

She also claimed that Arvind Kejriwal was jailed for working for the people and no charges could be proved against him.

"We will fight against dictatorship and win. The gates of the jail will break and Arvind Kejriwal will come out," she further said.
