New Delhi, Sep 21: Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav  today clearly said that his party would continue to support the UPA govt at the centre to keep communal forces at bay.
Speaking to newspersons here, Mulayam Singh said: "Why should we withdraw support? I have already told you, we do not want to bring communal forces back to power."

Asked about the possibility of midterm elections, the Samajwadi Party supremo said, "it is for the Congress to decide whether to run the government or go in for midterm polls."

Mulayam -UPA support

Mulayam Singh said, the Third Front would win the next general elections. Asked about who would lead the Third Front, he said, that would emerge soon after the Third Front wins the elections.

Mulayam Singh had staged a public protest in Delhi yesterday with TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat, CPI leader A B Bardhan, and other left parties to protest the Centre’s decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail.

"FDI in retail will render 5 crore people jobless", Mulayam Singh said today.

"We are extending support to UPA govt from outside only to keep the communal forces at bay. At the same time, we cannot support the wrong policies of this government, we will oppose them", he said.

"Where is the question of withdrawing support (to UPA)? I told you we are supporting UPA only to keep communal forces at bay", Singh repeated.

Samajwadi Party has 22 MPs in Lok Sabha, and  it will be acting as a strong pillar for the UPA govt from being toppled by the BJP-led opposition, even if Trinamool Congress withdraws the support of its 19 MPs.

Asked whether the Manmohan Singh government is presently in a minority, Mulayam Singh said, that will be decided inside the Lok Sabha.

Asked whether the UPA government is presently in crisis, he replied: "You can pose this question to Manmohan Singhji", he added.
