Jammu, Feb 02, 2023: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a government school teacher-turned-terrorist and recovered a perfume Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from his possession. Police arrested Arif, a resident of Reasi district, while investigating the twin blasts that rocked the Narwal area of Jammu and injured nine people on January 21.

Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh said Arif has links with proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. An IED planted inside a perfume bottle was recovered from his possession, he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir police chief said this was the first time that such a type of a bomb was recovered in the Union Territory.

“This is the first time we have recovered a perfume IED. We have not recovered any perfume IED before. The IED will blast if anyone tries to press or open it. Our special team will handle that IED.”

Arif was allegedly working at the behest of his Pakistani handlers and admitted to his involvement in bombing the bus carrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims that killed four people and injured 24 last May, Singh said.

The Jammu and Kashmir top cop said that Pakistan is “infamous for propagating terrorism” and that it wants to create a “communal divide” among the people in the state.

“Jammu and Kashmir is on target for some time,” he said.
