Terrorist, 2 soldiers killed in encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian

Srinagar, Feb 19, 2022: A terrorist was shot dead and two soldiers were killed in action during an encounter between the joint team of security forces and the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district this morning.

 

The identity of the killed terrorist is yet to be ascertained, a senior police officer told India Today, adding, two soldiers - Santosh Yaadev and Romit Chauhan - were injured during the exchange of fire and were later shifted to the 92 base hospital Srinagar, where they died of their injuries.

Acting on specific input about the presence of terrorists in Shopian’s Chermarg area, authorities deployed forces to the area immediately who then began a massive cordon and search operation.

As a joint team of forces approached the spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight, an official told India Today.

“Encounter had started at Chermarg, Zainapora area of Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,”the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted early morning.
