Three policemen killed, one injured in twin J&K militant attacks

Srinagar, Apr 06, 2015: Three policemen were killed in a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.

An unnamed number of militants attacked a police party in Shopian district leading to the death of three jawans.

"Three policemen -- one head constable and two constables -- were killed in a militant attack at Ashipora in Shopian district," a police officer said.

He said the slain policemen were unarmed and had gone to the village for investigating a crime when militants opened fire on them.

The attack came hours after guerrillas this morning shot at and critically wounded a police officer in Baramulla district.

There were also reports of a third attack in Tral in one civilian was injured.

Speaking about the Baramulla incident, a senior police officer said: "Two militants boarded a passenger bus at Mujgund on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road.

“They fired two pistol shots from close range in the moving bus at sub-inspector Gulam Mustafa of IRP 3rd battalion.

"They then hijacked the bus up to Shellu (Sopore) where they alighted and escaped."

The police officer who sustained critical bullet injuries was admitted to a hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
