Gorakhpur, March 27:  Two suspected terrorists believed to be Pakistanis have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh anti-terror squad in Gorakhpur. A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from them.

The two men were allegedly part of a terror plot ahead of elections and were recruited by the Indian Mujahideen, sources say. They allegedly came to Gorakhpur via Nepal.

The UP police was alerted about the suspects after the Delhi Police’s Special Cell interrogated IM chief Tehseen Akhtar, who was arrested from Darjeeling on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old expert bomb-maker was arrested from a village called Panitanki, near the border with Nepal. He had not just planned several terror attacks, including the blasts targeting Narendra Modi’s rally in Patna in October, but also helped set up an arms factory in the capital.

Tehseen had allegedly been running the Indian Mujahideen in India since the group’s co-founder Yasin Bhatkal was arrested last year, also near the India-Nepal border.
