Two women caught onboard Awadh Express with hashish worth rs 5.5 crore

Uttar Pradesh, December 9, 2024: In a significant joint operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Railway Police Force (RPF) recovered 11 kg of hashish at Gomtinagar railway station in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Acting on intelligence inputs, the team searched train number 19038 Awadh Express, where the contraband was found in 22 packets carried by two women.

According to reports, two women boarded the train’s disabled coach carrying sacks. Their behaviour aroused suspicion among a patrolling team of the RPF. When the sacks were inspected, the team was stunned to discover 22 packets filled with hashish, worth Rs 5.5 crore on the market. Both women were arrested on the spot.

The NCB team had been tipped off about female smugglers aboard the train. The train reached Budhwal station at 11:10 pm, where preliminary searches began in the women’s coach near the disabled compartment. The operation concluded at Gomtinagar station at 12:38 am on Thursday night into Friday morning.

The arrested women are residents of the Majhauliya police station area in West Champaran district, Bihar.

During initial questioning, they revealed that the consignment was to be delivered in Kota. They had the contact number of another smuggler, to whom the drugs were to be handed over in exchange for money. The authorities are currently interrogating the women to uncover the larger smuggling network.
