UP woman climbs electric pole after fight with husband over extramarital affair

Gorakhpur, April 05, 2024: A 34-year-old woman tried to end her life by climbing an electric pole and gripping the high-tension wire in Gorakhpur allegedly after she argued with her husband over her extramarital affair.

 

However, people present there informed the police, which contacted the local electricity department to cut the power supply to save the woman’s life.

The incident took place in the Pipraich area of Gorakhpur on Wednesday.
A video of the incident also went viral on social media which showed the woman atop the electric pole and the locals requesting her to step down.

According to the police, the woman, identified as Suman Devi (34), a mother of three children, was in an alleged relationship with a man. When her husband, Ram Govind (35) found out about her extramarital affair, she demanded that her lover should live in the same house as her husband.

When Govind declined her proposal and left the house, the woman tried to die by suicide by climbing on an electric pole and gripping a high-tension wire.

Speaking about the incident, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Pipraich Police Station said, "A police team reached the spot after receiving information about a woman who had climbed on an electric pole. Prima Facie looks like a matter of domestic dispute. We persuaded the woman to step down with the help of the local electricity department. The woman was saved and was sent back home with her husband. We have not received any complaints till now."
