Umpire killed for displaying ’no ball’ signal during cricket match in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack, April 03, 2023: An umpire facilitating a cricket match was killed in a fit of rage after he displayed a ’no ball’ signal during an ongoing cricket match.

The incident was reported from Odisha’s Cuttack on Sunday.

According to the details, the deceased, identified as 22-year-old Lucky Raut, was stabbed to death by one Smruti Ranjan Rout following an argument over the ’no ball’ signal.

Eyewitnesses said Lucky Raut was stabbed on the field with a sharp knife, following which, the accused was nabbed by those present at the field and was handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to CB Medical College and hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Reports said the match was a tournament between two teams - Brahmapur and Shankarpur.

The incident triggered tensions in the village, following which police forces were deployed to avoid any untoward incidents. An investigation into the case was launched.
