Lucknow, Jan 11, 2022: The Uttar Pradesh Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya resigns from cabinet and joins Samajwadi Party ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, citing neglect towards Dalits and farmers by BJP government.
In his letter, Maurya alleged negligence towards Dalits, farmers, small and medium scale businesses and unemployed youths by the Yogi Adityanath government.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav welcomed Maurya and said he always stood for justice in society.
"Maurya has always stood for justice for the society and is a well-known face among the masses. I welcome him and all the other leaders, workers and supporters into the Samajwadi party," Yadav said.
Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are slated to be held in seven phases starting from February 7, while the counting of votes will take place on March 10.
