Veteran Kannada actor Bank Janardhan passes away at 75

Bengaluru, April 14, 2025: Veteran Kannada film and television actor Bank Janardhan passed away late last night at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 75. According to reports, the actor had been suffering from age-related health complications for some time. His condition reportedly worsened recently, after which his family admitted him to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru, where he breathed his last.

Born in 1948 in Bengaluru, Bank Janardhan was a beloved name in the Kannada film industry, widely recognised for his strong supporting roles and impeccable comic timing. Over the span of his illustrious career, he featured in more than 500 films. He was particularly known for playing fatherly and comical characters that resonated deeply with the audience.

Although he had suffered a heart attack on September 26, 2023, he recovered following medical treatment. However, his health continued to decline due to age-related ailments. Despite stepping away from active roles in films post-1991, Janardhan remained an iconic figure in Sandalwood (the Kannada film industry) and continued to be remembered for his contributions.

Bank Janardhan starred in several memorable films including Shh (directed by Upendra), Tarle Nan Maga, Belliappa Bangarappa, Jee Boomba, Ganesh Subramanya, and Kaurava, among many others. His performances often brought a unique warmth and humor to the screen.

Beyond the silver screen, Janardhan also made a significant mark on television. He acted in numerous Kannada TV serials, such as Papa Pandu, Jokali, Robo Family, and Mangalya.

As the news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from fans, colleagues, and members of the Kannada film fraternity. Many recalled his unforgettable performances and the indelible impact he made on Kannada cinema and television. Bank Janardhan’s contribution to the entertainment industry will be remembered for years to come.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family soon.
