Veteran actor R Subbalakshmi dies at 87 in Kochi

Kochi, Dec 01, 2023: Noted veteran actress R Subbalakshmi died on November 30 in Kochi. She was 87 years old. The cause of death is still unknown. 

More details regarding her funeral are awaited. Soon after the news about the death of Subbalakshmi broke, fans took to social media to fondly remember her famous roles. For the unaware, she is the mother of actor Thara Kalyan, who appears in Malayalam films.

R SUBBALAKSHMI DIES IN KOCHI

On November 30, news about R Subbalakshmi’s untimely death was shared widely on social media. She was known for playing grandmotherly roles in films of different languages.

Subbalakshmi was married to late Kalyanakrishnan. According to reports, she is survived by two daughters and a son.

ABOUT R SUBBALAKSHMI

Subbalakshmi was not just an actor. She was a Carnatic musician and a painter. Some of her famous performances in Malayalam include ’Kalyanaraman, ’Pandippada’ and ’Nandanam’. Not just Malayalam, she also appeared in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Sanskrit films. She also played a role in the English film, ’In the Name of God’.

In Tamil, she was last seen in Thalapathy Vijay’s ’Beast’ and in Hindi, she played Sushant Singh Rajput’s grandmother in ’Dil Bechara’.

Subbalakshmi was also the first woman composer of All India Radio in South India. She also worked as a dubbing artist and appeared in more than 65 television serials.
