Veteran actor Sarath Babu passes away at 71

Hyderabad, May 22, 2023: Veteran actor Sarath Babu passed away on Monday, May 22. Earlier this month, he was hospitalised and was receiving treatment for age-related issues. His condition was said to be critical. He was 71 and breathed his last at today, May 22, at a Hyderabad hospital. He was undergoing treatment for multi-organ damage at AIG Hospital, Hyderabad.

 

On May 3, news about his demise had first circulated on social media. Fans and celebrities were quick enough to post condolences on their social media pages. Later, Sarath Babu’s sister rubbished rumours of his death and said that he was recovering. Kamal Haasan was among the celebrities who fell for the hoax. He deleted his tweet later.

Sarath Babu worked predominantly in the Tamil and Telugu cinema. He appeared in more than 200 films, including Hindi films too. He made his debut in 1973 but gained fame in 1978 through the Tamil film Nizhal Nijamagiradhu, directed by K Balachander. He has received eight state Nandi Awards. Sarath was last seen in Malli Pelli as Peddayana this year. He also appeared in Vasantha Mullai. Sarath Babu has also worked extensively in the television industry.
