Bangalore, April 14, 2013: A construction worker, Narayanappa, 40, was beaten to death by locals of Gulakamale village near Talaghattapura, for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old daughter of a construction supervisor.
Narayanappa, a native of Goudlahalli village in Srinivaspura, Kolar distrct, had joined work at the under-construction Cadabam’s Hospital at Gulakamale on Thursday. The supervisor, a native of Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh, had migrated to Bangalore 15 years ago and was living with his wife and two daughters in a makeshift shed at the adjoining farm of Shivanna who was constructing a three-storey house next block.
On Friday, the supervisor had gone to Kaggalipura with friends. On his return late at night, the supervisor found that his elder daughter was missing.
“I woke my wife up and we started searching for her. I heard my girl cry out for help from behind a bush. I rushed there to notice she had suffered bite injuries on her chest, face and was bleeding from her private parts,” he said.
When asked who abused her, she named Narayanappa who by then was pretending to be asleep. The workers, after tethering his hands and legs, and locked him up in the shed.
Landlord Shivanna said that on Saturday morning, the news spread like wildfire in the village and people gathered near the farm demanding that Narayanappa be handed over to them. Despite the supervisor trying to calm the mob of 50 people, they dragged Narayanappa to the road and thrashed him.
Talaghattapura police, who were alerted about the trouble, rushed to the spot to rescue a profusely bleeding and unconscious Narayanappa and shifted him to Rajarajeshwari Medical College and Hospital, Kengeri. However, Narayanappa succumbed to his injuries.
Talaghattapura police have registered a murder case and are investigating. Meanwhile, the supervisor has registered a rape case against the deceased Narayanappa. Police said medical examination was conducted on the girl at St John’s Hospital and the report awaited.
