Bangalore, Nov 1, 2012: Wipro Chairman Azim Premji has raised a stink over Bangalore’s garbage crisis, that is worsening by the day, and slammed the city’s civic body, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Trash has been piling up at several places across the city for the past two months as the municipal body struggles to clear it away.
Premji’s criticism comes two days after the embarrassed state government was forced to take action in the face of public outrage. Temporary arrangements have been made for trash to be collected and be dumped at the Maddur landfill. However, the landfill is expected to close by the end of this week.
The city administration on Wednesday finally approved 80 solid waste management projects worth Rs 300 crore. It also notified 400 acres of land on the outskirts of Chikballapur to be used as a landfill.
