The incident follows two similar cases reported in Bengaluru since late last year.

In the second week of December, an unidentified woman’s body was found in a yellow sack on a coach of a passenger train at SMVT station. The highly decomposed remains were discovered after a passenger complained of a foul smell emanating from the gunny sack, which was dumped with other luggage.

On January 4, railway police came across the decomposing body of a young woman inside a blue plastic drum abandoned at the end of platform number 1 at the Yeshwanthpur railway station. Police said the body was bought from Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh and dumped at the railway station.

The police are investigating the matter but refused to say whether all three incidents were related.
