Woman’s body found stuffed in suitcase, husband detained

Bengaluru, March 28, 2025: A 32-year-old married woman was found murdered in southeastern Bengaluru and her body was stuffed in a suitcase, police officials said on Thursday.

The police have picked up her husband from Maharashtra for questioning.

The deceased has been identified as Gauri Anil Sambrekar alias Gauri Khedekar, a mass media graduate, police officials said.

She lived with her husband Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, 36, in a duplex house in Doddakammanahalli near Hulimavu.

“The woman’s whole body, which was intact, was found stuffed in the suitcase, which was in the washroom,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Sarah Fathima said.

Forensic analysts have found a stab injury on the body, an investigator said.

The couple, married for two years, hailed from Maharashtra and had moved to the third-floor rented house in the city in February 2025.

Rakesh is a project manager in a well-known private firm, police said. Gauri stayed at home and was looking for a job.

Well-placed police sources noted that Rakesh had left for Mumbai on Tuesday, according to the landlord.

On Thursday evening, Rakesh informed the landlord about the murder by phone, the police said.

Following that, the house owner notified the control room around 5.30 pm about the body.

The police are now verifying these facts. The circumstances of the murder and the motive remain unknown.

The Hulimavu police and DCP Fathima were at the scene till late at night.

The forensic analysis team and the Scene Of Crime Officers (SOCO) analysed the crime scene and collected prints and other pieces of evidence before the body was moved for the autopsy procedures.

The parents of the victim have been informed, the police said.
